First Week

Thursday, September 28th, 2006 - 8 Comments

WOW!!!

So I’ve been in London for a whole week, I don’t think I have stop smiling the whole time. I will attempt to keep this as humble as possible, but I do feel incredibly proud of myself.

Lets start with my new job, at this point I’m not allowed to say anything about my current work other than I’m the main designer on a brilliant project. This involves creating the whole interface, look-and-feel and visual style.

To do the job I have an incredibly powerful desktop PC, combined my faithful Macbook I have a great work area. The team I’m working with are really friendly and knowledgeable, they make it a pleasure to come into work.

The project itself is an inspired idea, I’m quite surprised that no-one has thought of it already, at least in this context. I think it has the ability to be huge.

I’m also making sure that it is user friendly and powerful for both “n00bs” and “g33ks”, I want to be able to use the product too, and with the excellent developers we have it should not be a problem to create an awesome app that will be easy and powerful.

London as a whole is an amazing place (to all the people that told me it’s too expensive, it’s not true apart from accommodation) the sheer amount of different people, shops and places to go mean I’m never a bus or train ride away from exactly what I want.

Enough talking about me, my head is starting to swell!

I’ve got a stupidly busy couple of weeks ahead of me, what with finishing off sites, working and not having a net connection outside of work, blog posts are going to be a little thin on the ground.

I’m still here tho, reach me via email, myspace or leave a comment and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.

Workplace

I’ve been incredibly busy this week with my new job and moving to london.

I’ll tell you guys all about it at the weekend, for now you’ll just have to gaze upon my new workspace and awesome pc!

I’ve got a train to catch

My train is in two hours and it’s starting to rain. I’m both nervous and excited, although the shaking could be attributed to the huge caffeine intake I’ve had over the past few days.

I feel like I’ve done this before, when I moved to Plymouth for Uni I left everything behind and now I’m doing it again.

I honestly don’t feel like I will miss anything in the town, apart from my family (which should be taken in small does anyway), there are so many little things that I’m looking forward to as well as the obvious big things.

I’ve been working on my own for so long, relying only on my own judgement. Being part of a team all working towards the same goal will be awesome.

I look back at how bloody awful last month was, everything seemed to be working against me. It’s funny how everything can switch, when you’ve got a good thing going for you every crisis seems like an opportunity. I’m a very up and down kind of person.

I may well be without a connection for a few days. Being the expert at traveling light that I am, the Beast is staying at home. For the next month or so I’ll be Macbook only (which means very little DoD)

Expect sporadic photos on flickr and bulletins on myspace, I’ll be back soon with a fat 24mb connection!

Edit (1 hour later)
I just got my transcript through in the mail, I passed my degree with Honors!!

More Concepts - RedefiningCraft

Rcraft2

I’ve been hard at work trying to get as much done as possible before I move, the five websites are down to three and a few little bits on the other two.

Above is one of the concepts for the new theme I’m making for RedefiningCraft.com

I’m not one to toot my own horn too much, but I’m really proud of this one!
