Songbird 0.2

Monday, October 30th, 2006 - 4 Comments

The newest release of songbird (for Mac and Linux as well this time) out now. The 0.2 “Developer Preview” is a much more well-rounded alpha release of the future iTunes beating, open-source, firefox powered media player.

I’ve been watching this one since I started blogging nearly a year ago, which by the way was December 1st 2005, and when the full year ticks over I may have a bit of a surprise coming ;)

Some of you may remember when I got a blog post I did on Geeklimit about it that made it’s way to the front page of digg and got some great press for the songbird guys. It’s already awesome, just think what it will be like when it reaches 1.0

Songbird 0.2

You might notice that I was a little late with this news, I’ve been playing with 0.2 for over a week, the reason I decided to post this is that the new t-shirt design has been decided and will start printing next month.

I’m already the proud owner of one of only 300 of the original shirts and recently there was a poll to choose the next design, the choice between Pirate, Astronaught or Ninja. I would happily take all 3 but there could only be one.. Ninja

Work Overload

Monday, October 30th, 2006 - 6 Comments

I hate leaving Teabass for so long without a post, it’s been over a week now although it has not been for lack of effort. We’ve had a pretty hefty workload this past week at work, with the deadline looming and so many little tasks all dependent on each other everyone here is very busy.

I’ve also come to the realization that you can’t possibly include every feature in your first release. There are going to be a number of really cool features that are going to be added in the weeks after we launch, simply because there is not time to do everything we could spend a year in development and include everything in the launch but we’d likely miss the window of opportunity.

Plus this way you get to look forward to something new almost every single week!

I made the grave mistake of forgetting to take my charger home from work with me on friday evening, so I’ve been computer-less for 48 hours now. It was not as painful as I first feared but it did mean that I couldn’t do any of the things I planned this weekend, instead I filled myself with beer and confused ‘A Christmas Carol’ with ‘The Nativity’!!

I thought about buying a second charger for the macbook but I was instantly put off that when I saw the price tag… £59 for a plug is pretty damn steep, yes Apple make good hardware but they like you to pay through the nose for the extras!!

Oh and thanks for pointing out that the new Teabass theme does not work in IE, all the development was done on a Mac using standard CSS, and the fact that it is broken in both IE 6 & 7 shows what a mess Microsoft have made of it. I’ll get round to adding some hacks later in the week, for now you should really be using a proper browser.

Teabass refreshed

Saturday, October 21st, 2006 - 14 Comments

As you might have noticed Teabass has a new theme. I’ve been meaning to update the style here for a month or so but never got round to it. I’ve gone for quite a simple style with moving too far away from the old phoenixblue theme.

I’ve had a number of people say that it is too simple or boring, I guess if you compare it to the previous one it does look a little empty but give it time. The content area is a little wider and more elastic than before so I’ll have to try and write my posts in a slightly different manner.

I have a few little tweaks to add still, the page menu will be moved up into the grey bar in the header and the sidebar is now widget powered. If anyone has any good widget suggestions I’d love to hear them.

Work has been pretty cool this past week, investigating the mobile web and microformats as well as managing to completely wreck my work pc with a corrupt download of Ubuntu!

We have a target release date of 8th January 2007 and I think we’ll need a few testers for the week before that. I’m still not allowed to say too much… *cough* video *cough*

Until next time… keep watching the skies

Yet Another Teabass Concept

Yet another Teabass concept

Ok, it’s not finished but I wanted to get some opinions on this design, it’s more of an evolution of the current design rather than a complete change.

Red Ipod Nano

Red Ipod NanoRed Ipod Nano

Yet another Birthday present to myself, when I saw the Red iPod nano online earlier today I had to get one, so I worked through lunch and left early to go upto the Regent Street Store.

Needless to say I’m very happy with it, the only niggle so far is that it shows up as silver when connected to my Macbook.
