Happy Birthday!!!

Wednesday, October 11th, 2006 - 4 Comments

Today is the day..
I’ve been waiting for it for a whole year…

My iPod Nano is 1 year old today!!
Oh yeah and it’s my 22nd birthday today

Thanks to everyone for Happy birthday comments and messages, I have not had the most spectacular day but it’s been pretty good.

Doctor Who TardisI saw the tardis from doctor who on my way to work as they were filming some of the new series in london.

I also recieved 2gb of ram for my Macbook, which has just brought it alive, I can run 15-20 programs at once without any troubles, and I got myself a wireless mighty mouse from the Apple store.

A big teaseUsing Photoshop on the mac has now become a reality, before these two purchases it struggles and was pretty damn painful to use, but now I have enough ram to use it and a good smooth mouse too.

I’ve got myself an account at Upcoming.org, add me as a friend if you want to see what events in london I’m going to in the near future, next week I’m going to “The Smartphone Show” and tomorrow you’ll find me at “The Scope Art Fair” as well as the Tate modern.

I’m sure I have some other interesting things to say but I have a head cold and my brain feeling like Windows ME so I’ll leave you with some pictures I took in london today and a hint of things to come in december… Browsing large amounts of multimedia content on the web will never be the same again!

Great Web Design (part 1)

Friday, October 6th, 2006 - 1 Comment

I’m really starting to get into the nitty gritty of my work. Incase I forgot to mention I’m a designer at a new internet start-up.

I am responsible for all of the look and feel, user interaction, navigation and visual style of the site. Since starting this job I’ve noticed that I have been analyzing existing site design more closely, seeing what works and what doesn’t.

Rather than reading in books, I’m studying successful and useful websites big and small, trying to squeeze best bits of each.

What makes great design?

Over the next couple weeks or so I’m going to attempt to delve into different parts of design, hopefully teaching myself some stuff as well as writing some useful and interesting articles.

First up is navigation.

I want to see your favorite examples of great navigation and what you think makes a site easy to navigate and intuitive to use. Be it based on Flash, Javascript or just plain CSS.
