A New Job and A New iPhone

There’s been quite a bit of changing going on for me in the past week or so, most for the better too.

Time for a change

So last week I decided to hand in my notice and leave Greenvoice. There were a number of reasons why I choose to leave including

  • I want to gain a wider range of experience to make me a better all round developer
  • I want to meet lots of new and interesting people that I can learn about all kinds of things from, especially people with experience in all things internet
  • I don’t wanting to stagnate, I’ve achieved a lot in a short amount of time and I want to keep my momentum going
  • At the moment there is a great market for rails developers, loads of demand and very little supply, I couldn’t turn down that opportunity

I’m having this week off as a holiday but then starting a brand new job in Clarkenwell at E-Consultancy on Monday as a Ruby on Rails developer.

Best Phone Ever!

16GB iPhone

I also snapped myself up a brand new 16GB iPhone, I’d been putting off buying one whilst I saved up enough money. I’ve very happy with it, using it as an ipod, phone and super lazy web browser when I can’t be bothered to get out of bed to check my RSS feeds!

I’ve not jailbroken it, didn’t see much need plus with the awesome SDK announcement today in a couple months time I’ll have all the best mac applications running on the iPhone anyway. I’ll practically be able to live on it!

In the mean time I’ve been searching out all the best iPhone web apps and adding them to my home screen, some of my favourites are:

I’m also working on an iPhone version of Tickets and Feeddit using the iUI library so look out for that.

Turn any page into an RSS feed

RSS

I found a couple of very useful webpages this morning whilst I was browsing around:

Both of which are very useful information that is updated on a regular basis, and the perfect way to consume those would be RSS or ATOM, unfortunately neither of those pages have any kind of RSS feed.

So after those two pages didn’t have rss on them I went looking for an easy way to put some on, and found loads!

Google Search: “rss from any page”

It’s hard to tell what will work the best until there are updates to those pages but here are some of the ones I’m trying out:

For example:

www.linkstofeed.com/feed/?ad=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.xbox.com%2Fen-US%2Flive%2Fmarketplace%2Fticker.htm&en=&de=on&cn=&bs=&es=&do=on&ouc=1&inc=1&owc=1&mwc=1&twl=&twc=1&awl=&awc=1

Over to you

I’ve setup and subscribed to a number of those services to see what the results are like but I’m wondering if anyone else has gone through this before.

Has anyone tried out any of these services before? Which is the best? Did I miss any out? Or is there a better way to check for updates on a page?
