RSBS - Spam Protection

Wednesday, August 16th, 2006

I’ve just installed a new spam protection plugin called RSBS created by Neo Geek, it’s pretty clever, yet works so simply.

RSBS

If you have Javascript turned on then you know all you need to, everything works automatically.

When you enter a comment the radiobox “This is not spam” is automatically clicked, you comment gets posted and I remain spam free!

If you do happen to have javascript disabled then be sure to tick “This is not spam” and your comment will be accepted.

So how does it work? Well basically it makes sure your actually at my site when you make a comment rather than using a remote script.

I’m going to test it out for a coulpe days, if all goes well I will add the plugin to my other blogs as well.

Have a go in the comments section below, I’m sure Neo Geek would like to know if you break it or have any issues too.

Want to put it on your own blog? Download it here

Edit - Neo Geek took on some of my suggestions in version 0.4, so if you have javascript turned on you won’t even see the radiobox, its all automatic!

  1. Heh, yes if you can break it do tell! I did run it through some vigorous test on betamasters.com before releasing it (waiting for spam and saving a log of the activity) so I am very confident in the plugins abilities to block spam.

  2. Interesting thing there, like it quite a lot. Have a lot of the options in the Spam Karma that have to do with Javascript (i made it weigh more in the karma etc.) But I love this idea.

  3. My suggestions were liked, now if you have javascript you don’t even see the radio box, or know about the spam protection.
